Mother
Posted in: Uncategorized by admin on April 30, 2009
My mother died last week, and we have been busy with everything associated with this event. She was a woman who had many long term health issues, but did not let them define her as a victim or cause her to be bitter or full of drama. She preferred to enjoy life and her family and did not let any health issues slow her down much. She was an inspiration to everyone she knew and will be missed very much.
She was not a quitter, and this is a particular inspiration to me. Even though my heel is injured, I will continue to cross train and seek medical answers to this problem. The 1/2 marathon this weekend is not going to happen for me, but I have not given up yet on the marathon in September. If this issue cannot be resolved by September, then the next marathon will be the Disney one in January of 2010. We will see.
Her obituary is HERE.
Family stuff
Posted in: Training by Stephen on April 20, 2009
Training is taking a back seat to family issues right now. Still on track, however, for the marathon. Details to follow.
Ok, it is official. My foot is toast. It was doing so much better, and then I pushed it too hard(I think). So off to the podiatrist next week to get it back on track. Their is much optimism for this problem to be resolved, but I have officially encountered a setback. I will keep doing the elipticals and stuff to try and not lose too much fitness, and hopefully things will get back on track(sorry about the pun).
Hope everyone had a great Easter(Resurrection day).
Got the bike rack installed on the Pathfinder, so it is ready to go. Hopefully, there will be lots of cross training going on. In fact, I was going to ride to Compassion this afternoon (10-12 miles), but it was WAY too windy. So it looks like another big night of “elipticizing”. This has been interesting at Gold’s gym because they have a movie theater that has around 50 elipticals in it, and I have been watching movies while training. Because of this, I think that I have seen more movies so far this year than all of the last 5 years put together. Maybe I will start doing a movie review section in this blog :).
My foot is doing much better after laying off of it for a while. Hopefully, I have not lost much fitness due to only training with the eliptical. I have been ratcheting up the resistance, and it has been a great workout, but I’m sure it is not like running. The transition into running will probably happen this weekend, as I have a 1/2 marathon coming up, and have to be ready.
Thanks for “tuning in”, and see you at the next update!
Golf in and between the snow
Posted in: golf by Stephen on April 03, 2009
Snowed yesterday and supposed to snow tomorrow, but beautiful today. So Spencer, Larry and I played a little golf today. In 9 holes(not counting the last one-ouch!), I was 1 over par with 4-3puts(arghhh!), 2 birdies and a chip in. It was a tough day, but someone had to do it. I walked, so count it as a training day.
Heel is healing…. (sorry about the pun).
Time to rock!
Snow, and new shoes
Posted in: Training by Stephen on
It has not been very good weather for running outside lately. Cold, windy and snowy. Looks like winter has finally arrived in Colorado. Anyway, I have been hitting the eliptical hard anyway, and hoping my heel gets better. I must have pushed too hard and injured it, but it seems to be getting better. So maybe after ANOTHER snowstorm hits this weekend and melts on Monday(that is Colorado), that I can get outside and actually run.
I also think that my shoes need updating. I have great shoes, but I may need to get different ones that have more cushion. They say more cushioning may make it harder to run, but I just have to have it. the bottoms of my feet hurt after an hour and a half of running, and it may give my heel a break. We will see. I am off to the shoe store this afternoon.
