Phillip and his first game of golf

Sunday, June 21st, 2009

We had our grandson Phillip out here in Colorado for a couple of weeks, and decided to take him golfing last Monday.  He has never been on a golf course before and took a few holes to want to hit a ball.   Once he got started, however, he was having LOTS of fun.

Training run, nothing is flat

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

Ran throughout the neighborhoods close to the house.  Nothing is flat out here.  This route gains 400 feet before FINALLY coming back downhill.   A nice 5 miler with a trail thrown in.

The weather is perfect for running right now.  Very cool in the mornings and still moderate in the afternoons with no humidity.  Looks like it has turned into a sauna again back in Illinois.

Marathon in Sept or Jan?

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Looks like the marathon in September is not going to work. I am in “OK” shape, but unless I dedicate the rest of the summer to nothing but training, the September marathon is just going to happen too soon. I mean, there is too much else going on this summer to dedicate myself just to running. There is golf, hiking, fishing, traveling, and school. So it looks like the Disney marathon is the one. It is going on in January and should leave me with time to train(now that my foot is doing better).

So, time to reset the training schedule and the calendar. I will probably run a 1/2 marathon here in Colorado Springs in Sept.

Liquid sunshine 8 miler

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

Ran 7.6 miles from Compassion to the house.  Foot is feeling really good…maybe this thing in September might happen after all.  Another BEAUTIFUL run through the Air Force Academy with all the wildflowers out.  It was sprinkling on and off with the sun out…..Colorado “liquid sunshine”.  All in all a perfect night to run.   Route is as follows…..

Test

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Took pooch for another 2 miler, and I felt so good that it turned into a 5 miler.  Poor Lucy almost had a heart attack though, and I had to almost drag her the last mile or two.  The heel feels pretty good, but we will see what tomorrow brings.  Time to ice it down and take some naproxen….yipee.

Ankle

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

This blog must be looking like a medical report lately, but that is what is going on, so I have to go with it.  Anyway, I ran a couple more miles on the treadmill last night and have been pushing it pretty hard.  My heel is hanging in there, but my ankle is freaking out.  The chiropractor has loosened up my ankle and it is moving like it hasn’t for years and it is SORE.  Needless to say, I am a little discouraged, but am not giving up.  Maybe tonight, me and pooch will take a relaxing walk on the trails by the house.  We will see what tomorrow brings.

Rain, sun and thunder

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Ran 3 miles in the rain today.  The sun was out the whole time and it THUNDERED a bunch.  That  is Colorado for you.  In all the time we have lived here, I have never seen it so green as it is now.  And there is still a bunch of snow on Pikes Peak.  So it looks like it will be another month before we get to hike a “14er”.

The heel is getting iced right now and is feeling great.  So time to start pushing the miles up a little, which is VERY EXCITING!  Maybe the marathon in September is not off after all.

I am back

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Ok folks, so far so good for the heel.  Almost no pain after 2-2mile days.  AWESOME!  Pooch is a different story, however, as she is out of shape and can barely run 2 miles at a time.

Cannot wait to push myself farther and see how the foot does.  I talked to an olympic trainer the other day, and she said that I may still be able to run the marathon in September, but I doubt it.  It seems that I am a little out of shape.  But we will see.
