Jose Henrrique Reynoso
Jose got us started with Compassion. We were introduced to Compassion International at a Concert at Heritage Wesleyan Church in Rock Island ,IL. Look what one sponsorship can do….for the child, and for the sponsors.
We visited Jose and his family in the DR soon after sponsoring him. We were SO blown away by what Compassion was doing. We had to become volunteers (Advocates). These are pictures of our visit.
We met Jose’s family… the family had 6 boys! 4 boys slept on a single bed, the parents and the 2 twins slept in a regular bed. We brought sheets, and were told they would use them as “wallpaper” to keep the bugs out. The house had 2 rooms. A “kitchen” and a bedroom. The kitchen had nothing in it but a propane stove with no propane. They had to start a fire in the back yard to cook stuff.
While we were there, we visited the Compassion Student center, where Jose would attend on a regular basis. There, he was fed and tutored by church members. Because all the funds are distributed through the Compassion field staff and the local church, there is high accountability. So the local church is built up also, and the members can tutor the kids. This is a picture of the Project Manager, who used to be just like Jose as a child in the Compassion projects. Bernard, our interpreter, is standing next to her. 
As I said before, we were blown away by Compassion, and what they were doing at this project, and around the DR. So we joined up as volunteers. Now we are called Advocates, but still do the same thing. We are speaking up for the kids and informing everyone how Compassion is there for them around the world. Compassion is Christ centered, child focused, and church based. Every child will hear the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. We pray they will be saved through the love of God, their sponsor and the life giving Words of God.
