PLEASE! Join us..PLEDGE!

Posted in: Uncategorized by admin on September 19, 2008

Friends and family,

The following is an appeal letter concerning what this website is all about. Hopefully, everyone will join me on this adventure.  Now I know that no one will probably run with me, but you can be a part of it by pledging a donation to the Compassion Malaria Intervention Program.  Greetings!

Hope everyone had a great summer.

This letter is to inform and challenge you to partner with me in confronting a global crisis. What I have planned is to run a marathon next September and dedicate it to malaria prevention and nets. There is a link on this blog(left hand column) that explains the program very well.  Also, as some of you know, a friend of mine, Dennis Goetz, died of malaria a few years ago. And I am dedicating the run to him also.
So this is the plan. Would you consider partnering with me in this endeavor? We cannot do everything, but we can do something. I am appealing for pledges to the Compassion Malaria Intervention program, which includes nets for kids to sleep under at night. This program works and for such a small amount of money will save the lives of many. As volunteers for Compassion, we can also vouch for this organization’s high integrity and cost effectiveness.
This blog will inform of running updates, the malaria program and other good stuff. Training for the marathon will be difficult. I have never done something like this, and I am not getting any youngerJ . But the cause is worthy.
Please consider joining me on this endeavor and make a pledge  for the Compassion Malaria Intervention fund. A $10 pledge would be a minimum donation, but we would take $10 or $10,000!  Donations are tax deductible. Thanks and God bless.

 Your contributions save lives!
Every $100 donation provides:
·         $10 to treat the infected
·         $10 for programs to control malaria
·         $15 to educate families about the importance of bed nets
·         $15 to distribute bed nets to families at risk
·         $50 to purchase nets
Malaria is a potentially fatal infection of the blood caused by a protozoan parasite called Plasmodium. An infection occurs when a person is bitten by a mosquito that carries the parasite.
Each year, 350 million to 500 million people are infected with malaria. African children under the age of 5 account for 75 percent of those who die. Sadly, nearly everyone living in tropical Africa has a malaria episode at least once a year.
How does malaria affect children?
·         Malaria can ravage a child’s entire body, causing fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, joint aches and general pain. Left untreated, the disease can develop into cerebral malaria, affecting the brain. When this happens, a child can slip into a coma and eventually die. The disease is so deadly in sub-Saharan Africa that malaria is blamed for one in five childhood deaths.
·         If a child survives, he or she can still suffer loss. Malaria often keeps children out of school and they lose valuable educational opportunities.
·         Malaria can cause unborn children to die. Women who contract malaria during pregnancy have serious health problems. They run the risk of maternal anemia, spontaneous abortions and stillborn children. Their children may suffer from impaired fetal growth, premature birth or low birth weight.

CONTACT ME WITH ANY PLEDGES THAT YOU HAVE.  I WILL KEEP TRACT OF THEM AND LET YOU KNOW HOW TO ACTUALLY GIVE YOUR DONATION TO COMPASSION AFTER THE RACE.  THANKS AND GOD BLESS..
